Matcha Tea Ceremony
As we are matcha’s #1 fans, we of course want to acknowledge the traditional and cultural meaning of matcha, and the intricate tea ceremonies behind it.
Matcha was introduced to Japan in the 1100s by a monk who returned home from China with tea seeds. A practice was created named “the way of tea”, meaning the preparation of tea became a process of devotion that honoured the beauty found among the otherwise flawed world. In Japan, a tea ceremony is a spiritual process to celebrate hospitality, harmony and respect.
I recently got the incredible opportunity to sit in on a tea ceremony in Kyoto, with the most beautiful and passionate tea master (photo below - he was the best!). I loved every second of learning how very intricate and meaningful the preparation of matcha is - and can safely now say I look at matcha in a whole other light! I love that we have the opportunity to appreciate it as part of our daily lives.
Our matcha is harvested in Kagoshima, Japan - we have the most incredible supplier who has said herself that this matcha is the best of the best and her personal favourite!
After searching for high quality matcha on shelves in Australia and only coming up with overpriced, pale & murky green (more like grey) coloured powder, my dad and I were very motivated to make ceremonial, high grade (& of course, bright green!) matcha powder more readily available in Australia for not only ourselves (selfishly) but all the other matcha loving Aussies that may not be able to travel / order from Japan <3
We hope you love Matcha Lane as much as we do!
All my love,
Soph
